Tissue Specificity Expressed at highest levels in brain, testis,colon and kidney. Expressed at medium levels in heart and liver,small intestine and stomach. Expressed at low levels in peripheralleukocytes, bone marrow, skeletal muscle and aorta. Expressed inadipose tissue.
Function This transporter mediates the transport of long chain fatty acids (LFCA) through plasma membrane. It seems to be the main fatty acid transporter in small intestinal cells. It plays a role in the formation of epidermal barrier. Essential for fat absorption in early embryo.
