Synonyms Solute carrier family 16 member 7; MCT 2; SLC16A7; MCT2
DT Family Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS)
Monocarboxylate Transporter (MCT) Family
Tissue Specificity Detected in heart and in blood lymphocytes and monocytes (at protein level). High expression in testis, moderate to low in spleen, heart, kidney, pancreas, skeletal muscle, brain and Leukocyte. Restricted expression in normal tissues, but widely expressed in cancer cells.
Function This transporter functions as high-affinity pyruvate transporter, and this proton-coupled monocarboxylate transporter can catalyzes the rapid transport across the plasma membrane of many monocarboxylates such as lactate, pyruvate, branched-chain oxo acids derived from leucine, valine and isoleucine, and the ketone bodies acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetate.
Disease(s) Epilepsy [ICD-11: 8A6Z]
Obesity [ICD-11: 5B81]
Pain [ICD-11: MG30-MG7Z]
Heart attack [ICD-11: BA41.Z]
Endogenous Substrate(s) Monocarboxylates; Gamma-hydroxybutyrate
